New origins reshape a growing market

Experts highlighted the increasingly diversified nature of the mung bean trade, with countries such as Pakistan, Australia, Ethiopia and several South American origins playing a larger role alongside traditional suppliers. China remains the dominant import market, while India's emergence as a significant exporter has further altered global trade flows, particularly as Chinese buyers seek alternative origins following restrictions on some Myanmar shipments.

Panelists also pointed to the growing strategic importance of South America, where Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela continue to expand production and export capabilities. While current global supplies appear comfortable, the panel noted that future competitiveness will depend not only on production volumes but also on quality consistency, logistical efficiency and the ability to adapt to shifting market requirements and climatic conditions.
