The global mung bean sector continues to find new avenues for growth, supported by expanding production across multiple origins, evolving trade relationships and rising demand in key consuming markets. Weather risks, regulatory changes and logistics, however, remain important considerations.
Experts highlighted the increasingly diversified nature of the mung bean trade, with countries such as Pakistan, Australia, Ethiopia and several South American origins playing a larger role alongside traditional suppliers. Panelists also pointed to the growing strategic importance of South America, where Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela continue to expand production and export capabilities. While current global supplies appear comfortable, the panel noted that future competitiveness will depend not only on production volumes but also on quality consistency, logistical efficiency and the ability to adapt to shifting market requirements and climatic conditions.
