Last week, the Pulse Pod travelled to Paris for SIAL 2022, the renowned global food convention, to catch up with the global pulses community and discover some companies shaking things up in our industry! Rest assured we sampled our way through the most of what was on offer at the event; check out our pick of the innovative new pulse-based products on the scene!

Ensemble
We tried a chicken substitute from French company Ensemble Foods, who provide customizable plant-based protein solutions for businesses. Their awesome meat analogs are made from just 5 ingredients: wheat protein, chickpeas, fiber, sunflower oil and vegetable broth.

Pea Pops
UK company Pea Pops makes tasty snacks by “popping” pellets of chickpea and soy flour using a combination of heat and pressure. As a result, they contain much less oil than regular potato chips and less fat, too! A healthier, high-protein alternative to traditional snacks? Yes, please!

Mighty M.lkology
The GPC team went mad for this amazing plant-based milk when we sampled it at SIAL. The Mighty range comprises both pea milks and oat-and-pea milks and they also make delicious plant-based milkshakes and ice creams!

Noisy Snacks
Irish company Noisy Snacks seriously impressed us with their unique take on pulse-based snacks, including Crunchy Broad (Fava) Beans and Coated Chickpeas. The best thing about them? The tasty flavors ranging from Beef Brisket to Chip Shop Curry Sauce and Piri Piri Mango.

Pupuchi
Latvain company Pupuchi makes simple plant-based snacks by roasting fava beans in a little rapeseed oil and salt. Being made from fava, they’re an amazing source of protein and come in both sweet and savory flavors. There’s even a chocolate-covered variety…

Helena’s Hummus
This new hummus brand is an offshoot of Mexican pulse distributor Verde Valle and is the creator of the first hummus pouch that doesn’t require refrigeration, making it completely portable and the perfect snack to take with you for a picnic or hiking trip! As if that wasn’t enough, it’s delicious and comes in two flavors: Classic and Roasted Red Pepper.
