Future of Food

At a glance

The historic ANUGA convention takes place in Cologne every second year and is a hotbed of innovative, interesting and inspiring new products at the forefront of food culture. The GPC team was on the ground at ANUGA, crisscrossing the enormous pavilions to seek out the best and brightest new pulse products. Check out our list of the coolest things we saw…

1) The all-rounder

The GPC team were blown away by Beamy’s range of products - all made from pulses! Their plant-based dry mixes were developed to substitute burgers, meatballs, purée and eggs but are neutral and versatile enough to be used simply as a nutritious standalone protein source. Naturally flavored, easy to cook and with a long shelf life, we saw the future of food in this Beamy’s simple but genius products.

2) The healthier chips

You’ve heard of hummus chips and lentil crisps but EMILY’s Veg Thins include peas, beans AND lentils for a light, crunchy snack. Available in Sea Salt, Sour Cream & Onion and Barbecue flavor, these chips pack a healthy, tasty punch that’s hard to forget.

3) The deceptively simple snack

Indie Bay’s roasted and salted broad (fava) beans were a hit with the GPC team: simple, moreish and high in protein, we kept coming back for more. This British brand uses UK-grown faba beans in an innovative, aspirational yet utterly uncomplicated way!

4) The high-protein breakfast cereal

The founder of German brand Habbys is on a mission to develop healthier versions of the snacks he loved as a child. Starting with breakfast cereals, he developed a range that is high in protein and low in refined sugar and carbs. The hero ingredient? Faba bean protein!

5) The plant-based seafood

The Plant Based Seafood Co is all about blowing minds with its products that make clever use of pea protein to create plant-based alternatives to seafood. A small, women-led company based in Virginia, USA, the range includes crab cakes, dusted scallops and shrimp.
