Total pea production for 2024 is 2.99 million tons, 15% higher than in 2023. This is based on an average yield of 34.8 bushels per acre, or approximately 2.12 tons per hectare. Breaking it down, yellow peas account for 2.45 million tons (+8%), green peas 423,000 metric tons (+40%), and other types of peas like Maple 129,000 metric tons, tripling last year’s volume. This increase in production is not due to a larger planted area but rather to better yields. However, yields still remain below Canada’s “good” standard of 2.5 tons per hectare.
