From nutrition and sustainability to trade and food security, pulses have a vital role to play in addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges, a message at the heart of GPC President's opening address at Pulses 26.
Opening the convention, Vijay Iyengar welcomed delegates from more than 40 countries and reaffirmed the Global Pulse Confederation's mission to increase pulse production, consumption and international trade. He emphasized the importance of maintaining free, transparent and science-based trade while ensuring pulses remain an affordable and accessible source of nutrition for populations around the world.
The GPC President and Chairman of Agrocorp International also highlighted the broader contribution of pulses to sustainable food systems, describing them as a cornerstone of nutrition, resilience, equity and environmental sustainability. He pointed to ongoing innovation across the sector, from new processing technologies and value-added products to advances in crop science, while underscoring GPC's growing role in market intelligence, data sharing and industry collaboration. He concluded with a call to consumers, businesses and policymakers to support the expanded adoption of pulses worldwide.
