What pulse importers need to know about China’s customs and quarantine rules

Su explained the main requirements for bringing pulses into China, covering market access, overseas enterprise registration, quarantine approval and designated ports of entry. He also detailed key customs declaration and inspection procedures, including documentation, labeling, packaging, contamination, pests and food safety requirements, as well as the circumstances that can lead to goods being returned or destroyed.

He highlighted the importance of managing compliance before shipments reach the port, pointing to recurring problems with pesticide residues in Myanmar mung beans and non-compliant labeling. Su urged companies to strengthen controls at source, verify the applicable requirements before shipment and operate with integrity to help avoid clearance delays, additional costs and the potential rejection or destruction of goods.
