From record harvests to evolving import duties, the global lentils landscape is moving fast — and traders are recalibrating in real time. A region-by-region look at yield results, oversupply risks, India’s changing import policies, and what they mean for short-term lentil trade prospects.
In this GPC members-only webinar, moderator Andac Kolukisa (Natural Gida) joined Jay Saraff (Mandala Trading Pty Ltd), Deepak Rawat (Empros International), and Binod Agarwal (SGR AK AGRI), for a region-by-region breakdown of the market’s most pressing questions: Where is production headed? Is oversupply here to stay? And how will India’s evolving import policies reshape short-term trade flows?
The session opened in Australia, where participants compared the final picture of the lentil harvest with earlier trade expectations and ABARES projections. Production has come in strong, feeding an already heavy supply situation. With current numbers pointing toward significant oversupply, panelists examined where excess volumes are most likely to move — and what logistical or pricing constraints may come into play.
