StatsCan’s final MY 2025/26 numbers delivered a shock: yields across peas, lentils and chickpeas came in well above expectations. In a year marked by intense competition, muted demand and geopolitical headwinds, the scale of this harvest raises a tougher question — not how much was produced, but how much can realistically be moved?
Statistics Canada released its final report for MY 2025/26 in the country, surprising the trade and analysts, with a print of a larger crop than the market estimates. In a year when the competition is hot, demand is subdued and the geopolitical situation is stacked against the Canadian farmers, a large portion of this big crop will end up in the bins at the end of marketing year.
